Bachelor of Arts Requirements

The B.A. degree emphasizes social science and communication classes in addition to Psychology.

Concentrations

All students must choose a concentration. Several concentrations are specificied by the department, but "eclectic" concentrations may be developed in consultation with your advisor.

Concentration Types of Courses Required
Clinical Psychology Personality, abnormal psychology, clinical and community psychology, assessment
Applied Behavior Analysis

Learning, behavior analysis (Skinnerial learning), clinical psychology.

Students who complete the ABA concentration are eligible for certification as an Asociation Behavior Analyst.

Industrial/Organizational Psychology Industrial/Organizational psychology, social psychology, group dynamics, business management
Animal Behavior

Learning, behavior analysis, animal behavior, biology

This concentration is only available with the B.S. degree. SCUBA certification is highly recommended.

Forensic Psychology A subset of the Forensic Psychology major courses. Recommended for students who change majors and do not have time to complete the full Forensic major.
Eclectic A combination of lower and upper level courses determined in consultation with your advisor.

Internship and Thesis

An internship or thesis is required in the area of the concentration. Internships involve working in an applied psychology setting such as a mental hospital, social service agency, human resource department, aquarium, police department, or school. Please see the Internships page for details. Student may choose to perform a Senior Thesis instead of an internship. The thesis requires two semesters of work and is similar to a Master's thesis in several ways.
