Academic Dishonesty - Cheating

Cheating on in-class tests is a straightforward type of academic dishonesty. Cheating on take-home exams presents a more complex situation.

As a rule of thumb, you may not help other students in any way on take home exams.

Help that you can give to someone on a take-home exam:

  1. Tell her that the exam is hard [or easy]
  2. Tell her that you finished the exam [or not]
  3. Give her moral support
  4. Share criticisms of the instructor, the course, the program, or life in general

Help that you cannot give:

  1. Sharing answers
  2. Sharing strategies for answering questions
  3. Sharing source materials (unless the instructor allows)
  4. Sharing information about where to find source materials (unless the instructor allows)
  5. Just about anything involving the test content
