Music Program

Student Reviews

See what our students are saying about Florida Tech's Music Program:

Michelle Bromschwig

"The music minor is the perfect way to indulge my creative side while improving my musical skills. Playing in the band and taking private lessons, as well as curling up and reading my music history book have proven to rejuvenate me and clear my head from the craziness of my major."

Tatjana Jemmott

"I grew up playing flute and steel pan. Studying private voice for my music minor has introduced me to a whole new range of styles that I enjoy singing such as Broadway tunes, opera and jazz."

"When I decided to attend Florida Tech to pursue a degree in engineering, I only played clarinet and was expecting it to stay that way. But, thanks to the music program, I learned how to play 5+ additional instruments in a wide variety of styles that I otherwise might not have ever tried. Plus, having a great group of friends that are always willing to get together and jam is definitely one of the best ways to escape from the stresses of classwork and everyday life!"

"Florida Tech is already well-known for it's achievements in science and technology, but with it's inclusion of a music program with an excellent faculty and supportive community, Florida Tech surely stands at the top with schools that have twice it's legacy!"

"It’s an exciting time to be a part of the Music Program at Florida Tech! I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to take music theory, history, and ensemble based classes in conjunction with my studies in engineering. The ensemble based classes provide a hands-on approach to music education. The Jazz Syndicate has enabled me to develop and improve my improvisation skills and Jazz Ensemble has given me the opportunity to perform in a big band setting. Master classes are also offered; students, including thos of science and engineering specialties, are given the opportunity to perform for and receive advice from renowned performing artists. I don’t know of any other school that provides such noteworthy opportunities like these to all students!"

"Many great scientists and engineers have also been accomplished musicians, so it's no surprise that many of the students at Florida Tech participate in the music program. The diverse ensembles offer students an opportunity to mingle with students from various academic backgrounds in a stress-free environment pursuing musical interests that many of us have had since middle school.  As a pianist for the Jazz Band at Florida Tech, I have been able to continue my passion for music while pursuing an engineering degree--and I made some great friends in the process!"

"Music is a huge part of getting involved and being social on campus- I've made most of my friends through those connections. Every opportunity, from the student run ensembles to the academic music program, is just fantastic fun and I'm really honored that I get to play in most of the groups. The students, the teachers and all of the people that come together to celebrate the musical arts make all of the work and effort pay off."
