The Florida Tech Cognition Applied Research Lab (CARL)

The Florida Tech Cognition Applied Research Lab (CARL) is the only laboratory of experimental psychology in East Central Florida. Our work at CARL primarily involves human computer interaction (HCI) and research on Perception Afforded Cognition and Cognitive Tools. CARL's mission is about, enhancing the qualities of life, learning and work by thinking smarter . CARL is affiliated with the Journal of Interaction Science published by Springer. CARL was founded by Dr. Gisela Susanne Bahr who is serving as the lab director; ongoing project include:

1. Visual Interfaces that overcome perceptual and cognitive processing limitations and biases.

2. Big Data and Human Long Term Memory: Organization and retrieval using relational databases to enhance human cognitive performance during remembering, problem solving and decision making

3. Polite Security Agents that are mindful of user attention to engage non-experts in decision making.

4. Eyetracking of Fine and Comic Art.

5. Canine Eyetracking (CARL is the first laboratory int he world to eyetrack dogs.)

New projects are:

  • Aging and HCI
  • Underwater Problem Solving
  • Greying Divers.
