President Catanese“Music hath charms to soothe a savage beast,” so wrote 17th Century Playwright William Congreve. In the 21st Century, we know that music also can help you learn mathematics, science, and engineering. The nexus between the left and right sides of the brain is much more complex and interrelated than we believed previously.

At Florida Tech, we believe that music is intrinsic to higher education. The study of music and playing musical instruments makes for the education of the whole brain as well as the total person."

Mission Statement

The music program at Florida Tech is designed to enhance the experience of Florida Tech students in all disciplines. It offers the highest level of education in academic music learning as well as opportunities for progressive and innovative musical experiences through performance, professional guidance, and community interaction. An integrative component of the humanities, the music program embraces and embodies Florida Tech’s mission as a high tech university with a distinctly human touch.

Program Benefits

Music options are complementary assets to other university curricula and they contribute to a well-rounded and balanced humanities curriculum. Exposure to a variety of the major arts through course offerings for university credit fosters the broad cultural perspective our society expects of its university graduates. Meteorology '09

Music has been a big part of my life here at Florida Tech. The first organization I joined was the Florida Tech Pep Band and I have been an active member since I was a freshman. When the wind ensemble was offered my sophomore year, I joined right away. Similarly, I joined the jazz ensemble when it started. All three ensembles are quite different and they provide a creative outlet between math and physics classes Through the various music ensembles here I was able to meet people and develop close friendships that made these years quite enjoyable.
